The smart city of future: [[Traffic Management & Traffic Enforcement]]
Recent projections show that by 2050, two-thirds of the global population will live in cities. Which makes it imperative that our future cities aren’t vast urban hellscapes but are instead smart urban centers with a dash of sci-fi: devices, roads, and lampposts all talking to each other – making life in cities safer and smoother.

In today’s world, traffic is a major problem. Whether in advanced or developing countries, every city has this problem.
Guangzhou city (China) has a population of 16 million and more than 16,000 km of roads. It has a daily flow of 3.5 million vehicles. The government had the idea to combine traffic management with Internet plus services. It happened that AliCloud (Alibaba Company) provided AutoNavi’s big data. It allows the government to analyze traffic flow for the entire city. The main focus of their cooperation with Alibaba AutuoNavi is to use their data to judge traffic conditions in real-time accurately. By using Alibaba AutuoNavi’s big data, they developed a smart transformation plan for urban traffic. They optimized traffic signals and reorganized road network, all with a scientific approach.

Precise identification of violating vehicles even in heavy traffic
To further explore the traffic situation in Guangzhou, let's play a simple interactive [[game]] to feel the charm of the smart city! You are a uber driver.
Beep! The phone sends a message, you need to pick up a passenger named paul.
[[Ready! Go!]]
[[Sorry, I don't want to play the game.]]
<img src="https://timgsa.baidu.com/timg?image&quality=80&size=b9999_10000&sec=1585780793407&di=d9e63b0eb747cfddf4496266259c4d68&imgtype=0&src=http%3A%2F%2F08.imgmini.eastday.com%2Fmobile%2F20180811%2F20180811195524_9da68bb0b4185b02ef37c9944a3e5596_3.jpeg">
Thank you.
Want to start again? [[Ready! Go!]] You: Welcome to smart city--Guangzhou!
Paul: Interesting! I never heard about that! Can you explain what is smart city?
You: The word "smart city" has been a buzzword over the last few years and a concept everyone is talking about. At its core, it's primarily about solutions to very real problems. Over the years, cities have become denser and this has been accompanied by a shortage of resources. With a population of 5.2 billion living in the world's cities today, the number will grow by approximately one billion by the year 2030. This number is expected to equal 60 percent of the world's population. Today it equals 55 percent. And these people are consuming more and more resources, We now must identify where there is an increased need for action and how smart ideas can be used to solve these problems with the help of technology.
Paul: What kind of city can become a smart city?
You: The smart city comprises a cluster of topics that include, among others, the smart economy, smart people, smart governance, smart living, smart transportation , and the smart environment.
Paul: Wow! So today I must experience smart transportation, right?
You: Yes, sir.
Paul: I'm in a hurry to go to the company for a meeting now. Can you please drive faster?
You: Sorry,sir. I'm afraid I can't.
Paul: Why? I can pay you more tips!
You: Because of[[ Average Speed Enforcement]]You:Smart transportation is a concept that naturally brings together technology and traffic monitoring. It focuses on using the already limited space, in particular in city centers, more efficiently to create a better living environment. Distributing traffic volume is also beneficial to the environment. Today, fixed, semi-stationary, and mobile systems for speed enforcement are used to ensure drivers observe legal speed limits. The platform detects vehicles entering and leaving a road section and calculates their average speed. This helps improve road safety on particularly hazardous stretches of road and efficiently control traffic flow, especially when combined with variable-message signs.
You: For road safety and congestion alleviation, I have to follow the average speed calculated by the platform.
Paul: Really? How does the platform achieve such sophisticated calculations?
You: They use big data to judge traffic conditions in real-time accurately. The Platform Monitoring and Management System precisely measure the position, lane and speed vector as well as the elevation of the objects in the field of view. No matter if the road is straight or curved.
Paul:Please! Just drive faster! I don't want to be late! I will be deducted!
Yo decide to....
[[Continue to accelerate and overtake!]]
[[observe the traffic rules]] Beep! The platform has detected your overspeed! You get a real-time reminder! The transportation platform requires you to drive according to the current planned.
<img src="https://www.boulderai.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boulderai-smart-traffic-monitoring.jpg">
You: I really can't accelerate any more! Now the surrounding vehicles have received the prompt message!
Paul: what's the message?
You: Since the Platform Monitoring and Management System are ready for any type of Car communication, real-time location of all traffic participants, speed vector, class information and additional data are measured. This data will be broadcasted, received by Car communication equipped vehicles and automatically help to avoid accidents. The result is an enhanced safety for all vulnerable road users.
Paul: Oh, I see. Due to your overspeed, the platform has sent an alert to all vehicles nearby to ensure the safety of other vehicles.
You: The platform monitoring systems can capture the flow of traffic in different lanes and in both driving directions. One area of application in traffic monitoring in this context would be the interfacing with other traffic control systems. This might include communicating traffic congestion and offering alternative routes. All of this information could also be provided by an app that sends the user up-to-date traffic information via push notifications.
You: I should [[observe the traffic rules.]]
Paul: No!!! [[You can't do that!]] Time is money! You start to hesitate to slow down. But Paul asks you to continue!
Paul: You try to find a short way. Let's avoid the route planned by the system.
You: The route planned by the system is the most reasonable driving route. Shortcuts may affect the traffic routes of other cars.
Paul: Let's try! I don't believe the platform can detect our path at any time!
You: Sorry. I can't.
Paul: PLease try! Otherwise, I can only complain to you about your company. You don't want to lose your job, right?
You decide to......
[[try to find a short way]]
[[observe the traffic rules]] You're on a strange road. You can only keep driving blindly.
Beep! Red Light Enforcement!!!!
You: Oh, no!!The platform has turned on red light enforcement!
Paul: What?
You: The current road has turned on the mandatory red light to ask us to slow down!!
To further improve road safety near intersections, by enabling adaptive traffic light controls, the platform can be combined with red light enforcement system.
Paul: What if we don't slow down?
You: Do you want to stay in prison for a few days?

Paul: Fine! [[Obey the traffic!]] I have to lose salary today.Thank you for your persistence! Even though you get complaints from passengers.
Want to start again? [[Ready! Go!]]
You return to normal driving speed on the road.
suddenly! You see [[something]] on the big screens along the way!You see the big screens on the road showing you and pauls' identity and photos of traffic violations!

You: The government used a large number of street monitors to manage traffic violations effectively. In the billboards of various commercial intensive blocks, the government regularly publishes the list of people who violate traffic regulations. The list details the reasons for traffic violations, such as running a red light, driving after drinking, etc.
[[Thank you.]]
Thank you for your time! I hope this interaction can help you to know more about the future smart city!
